These costs may be higher if the coat is excessively matted. Bark & Bath reserve the right to stop the groom and request the dog comes for a return visit, at an additional charge to the owner, if we need more time to groom your dog. Please note matted coats can be extremely painful for a dog and we need to put their safety and welfare first.

If your dog is found to be carrying fleas the additional cost covers the use of a specialised flea shampoo and the extra time needed to clean the salon. Further surcharges may occur if the parasite issue is severe, resulting in us having to close the salon for the day to use fumigation products.

We would ask that owners agree to inform us of any health or behavioural issues with their dog prior to attending their groom allowing us to best cater for the dog needs with one of our bespoke appointment slots. We understand that some owners may be unaware of issues their dog may have and, in this case, our groomers will discuss our specialised service with you when you collect your dog.

Once the first groom has been completed, our groomers will discuss a grooming schedule best suited to your dog that we will recommend you adhere to. It’s a myth that anxious dogs benefit from long periods between grooms, we have found that this exacerbates the problem as the dog then views grooming as a punishment. Dogs thrive on routine so, by making grooming part of their normal life, they become more accepting of it. We have even seen some dogs completely transform to enjoying it. It is also important to note that leaving long periods between each groom creates a higher risk of matting  Matting can be extremely painful for a dog making grooming an anxious dog much more distressing and in some cases impossible.

Bark & Bath Dog Grooming Glasgow Anxious Dog Grooming

At Bark & Bath we want to work with our clients towards one common goal – reducing the stress and anxiety of their cherished companion. It is important that owners work with us to assist their dogs and help improve the issues they experience therefore our groomers will ask that you

  • seek advice from a vet to determine if any underlying health issues may be making your dog uncomfortable during grooming
  • work with your dog at home to help promote positivity around home grooming.

In the event that no improvements are made after a few grooming appointments we would ask that you seek the professional help of a behaviourist. Our staff will be happy to discuss and advise on these specialised services. During this process we would ask you to keep us updated on your dogs behavioural training and when advised receive the dog back in the salon for a groom.

Our groomers will do everything in our power to help your dog gain confidence in the grooming environment although, it is important to note that, we are not vets or behaviourists and there may be some dogs we may not be able to help. We will, in these extreme cases, help owners to obtain advice and services from other pet professionals local to our area.
